Artist's Comments

Four vintage engravings - horse, unicorn, quaint rhinoceros and a manticore.

Large brushes made in Photoshop CS.

Original engravings from [link]
by courtesy barefootliam [link]

I used one of them here: [link]

Now, we all are familiar with the standard conditions - please fav or comment, credit appropriately, link back, blah blah etc etc. And we also all know that this is like too much hassle, and we don't do it.

So - really - it would be so nice if you did all these things (and would, furthermore, demonstrate that your mother brought you up right), but actually you are free to use these in any way that inspires you. (You gonna do that anyway, right?)

I'd also really enjoy it if you note me or comment here when you use the stock in a published piece - I'd love to see your work.

They are gorgeous, aren't they? And even if you don't want the whole animal, the textures in the engravings are cool to use in fragments. Enjoy!
:iconathalour:
Too beautiful! That horse is exquisite.

Ok. Amateur question for you...

Brushes. Kind of like a stamp? But used in photoshop?

Are these images public domain?

And could one print one out and use it in traditional work?

I would definitely be the kind of person to link you the work. Some of these images are just beautiful. <3

Sorry. Answered part of my question by following your link. :)

I'd still be interested in someone explaining brushes in layman's terms. <3

just wanted to say, I might use this somewhere in my artwork for the *Machina-Obscura steampunk RPG project. ^^

As there will be many other recources I will be using, it is hard to keep track of every little bit I used along the process, let alone find all the links again. BUT I have added this deviation to my Collections, I am sure people will find their way back here.

You should also have a look at the project ;)

thank you!

I'd be delighted if you find a cool use for them. No worries about keeping track of credits - I know how difficult it gets.

In South Africa we have a value called "ubuntu" - comes from a local proverb that, roughly translated, says that "a person is only a person through other people". It's about sharing and communality, and the web of connectedness. So I suppose it could be modified to say that "an artist is only an artist through other artists". This is a very long winded way of saying I joined dA to share stuff!
:iconhogret:
Great - would LOVE to see what you do with them!
