Work-in-progress.

Assemblage in a vintage cigarette tin 3" x 5" x 1" deep.

Collaged background (paper, glazes, marker pens).
Miniature railway figurine (HO Gauge) with painted milagro wings.

The 3D clouds are exploded soap, and they are the reason why this is work-in-progress. They are so fragile that they disintegrate if you sigh on them. So they will have to be discarded, and I'll need to start over. But they looked so pretty I had to photograph them first.

    EXPLODED SOAP RECIPE
Put chunks of Ivory soap in the microwave.
    Blitz for 1 -2 minutes.
    Voila ~ soap clouds!
    Enormously cool.
    But not archival.
    Sigh.

Anyone have any suggestions for how to make 3D clouds (other than cotton wool which is so last year)?

they're so realistic and fluffy looking! and i can't believe they're made out of microwaved soap! haha
but it's unfortunate that they're so fragile...
i hope you luck in finishing this piece~ ^^

The concept is working - the execution is giving me a migraine!

I'm trying to think of how I would make 3D clouds. While something fluffy seems obvious, I'd be worried that it wouldn't hold up to the test of time. What if you were to make small armatures from polymer clay and then use flocking or cotton to cover the surface? Hmmmmm, this is a tricky one!

Good idea -I'm going to give it a try! Also thought of carved polystyrene!
